Alternate side parking in New York
Alternate side parking is the street-cleaning rule printed on the sign for your side of the block. One side of a street can be restricted on Monday and Thursday, and the other side on Tuesday and Friday. The sign names the days and the hours. There is no single citywide clock that replaces that sign.
When the restriction is lifted
The city sometimes suspends alternate side parking for a holiday, snow, or another announced reason. A suspension does not wipe away a “no standing anytime” sign, a hydrant, or a bus stop. Park Map checks the city calendar when you look up an address, and it still shows the other rules on that curb.
What the ticket count means
For some blocks the site shows how many street-cleaning tickets the city recorded on that street over a named period. That is history, not a prediction that a sweeper is coming today. The sign and today’s calendar are the rule. The count only says how often drivers on that street were ticketed for cleaning.
Also: hydrants and live cameras.
